Cancer Resources

The more information you and your loved ones have about cancer care, the better prepared you will be. Below you’ll find a helpful list of resources that will provide information, advice, support, and more. Just click on the site that interests you.

The American Cancer Society (ACS) -- a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization with state divisions and more than 3,400 local offices -- is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem through research, education, advocacy, and service.

Cancercare
Cancercare is a national non-profit organization that provides free professional support services to anyone affected by cancer: people with cancer, caregivers, children, loved ones, and the bereaved.

Cancer Institute of New Jersey
The Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ), of which CentraState is an affiliate, delivers advanced comprehensive care, conducts world-class cancer research, transforms laboratory discoveries into clinical practice and provides education regarding cancer prevention, detection and treatment. CINJ also offers the latest clinical trials and experimental therapies that are sometimes the only hope for patients with certain types or stages of cancer.

Commission on Cancer
An arm of the American College of Surgeons, the multidisciplinary Commission on Cancer (COC) sets standards for quality multidisciplinary cancer care delivered primarily in hospital settings; surveys hospitals to assess compliance with those standards; collects standardized and quality data from approved hospitals to measure treatment patterns and outcomes; and uses the data to evaluate hospital provider performance and develop effective educational interventions to improve cancer care outcomes at the national and local level.

Lung Cancer Circle of Hope
The New Jersey-based Lung Cancer Circle of Hope was founded in 2006 by individuals whose families have been affected by lung cancer either as survivors or as family members. The group's mission is to educate the public and members of the medical community about lung cancer; advocate on behalf of lung cancer patients, their families and others at risk; influence public policy decisions relating to lung cancer; and promote increased funding for lung cancer research.

Monmouth Cancer Coalition
The Monmouth Cancer Coalition's mission is to increase awareness, education and access to cancer screening and care through developing and sustaining collaborative relationships within the community. The goal is to reduce cancer morbidity and mortality in Monmouth County. The Monmouth Cancer Coalition is sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, Office of Cancer Control and Prevention with the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey as grant recipient for the purpose of implementing the New Jersey Comprehensive Cancer Control and Prevention Plan at the county level.

National Cancer Institute
The National Cancer Institute (NCI), a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), coordinates the National Cancer Program, which conducts and supports research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs with respect to the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, and the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients.

New Jersey Cancer Trial Connect
http://njctc.org/
New Jersey is a leader in the fight against cancer. Hundreds of cancer treatment trials are going on right now in the state, including at CentraState. NJ Cancer Trial Connect (NJCTC) is your way to connect to these clinical trials. It matches the cancer treatment trials in the state with your medical profile. You can search for studies of interest to you and your family or others you may know.

Explaining a Loved One's Cancer to a Child:
"Butterfly Kisses and Wishes on Wings"
This website supplements the book "Butterfly Kisses and Wishes on Wings"—an aid to educating and supporting any child who is facing the cancer of a loved one. The book's author, a grade-school teacher, originally wrote the text for her cousin, an award-winning artist and the book's illustrator, to help her find the right words to tell her then 3-year-old and 5-year-old boys about her breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
