Residency Application 

Q: How many residents are selected each year?
A: We accept 6 new Family Medicine Residents from the hundreds that apply each year.
Q: What are the requirements for applying to the CentraState Family Medicine Residency Program?
A: Our candidates must be U.S. citizens, Permanent Residents, or current holders of a J-1 visa. (We do not sponsor visas.) They must have at least one year clinical rotation experience in the U.S. or Canada, with at least 2 letters of recommendation. Candidates must have graduated from medical school within the last 5 years and they must have a minimum combined average score of 190 for USMLE Steps 1 and 2. 

Q: Can I send a paper application form?
A: The Residency Program does not accept paper application forms. Students must apply online, through ERAS. The ACGME ID for our program is 1203312679.

Q: What is the application deadline?
A:  December 31st.

Q: Any fellowships offered?
A: We offer a one-year geriatric fellowship program at CentraState Medical Center. There are also Sports Medicine, Academic Medicine, Research, and Women’s Health Fellowships available at our sponsoring institution, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Q: Are there other residency programs at CentraState?
A: No, this is an unopposed program.

Q: What types of amenities are available to CentraState Residents?
A: CentraState Medical Center offers resident physicians many amenities, including free parking at all sites, daily meal allowances, and discounted gym memberships at our new Fitness and Wellness Center.

Q: How many weeks of vacation do residents receive?
A: 4 weeks

Q: Are there job opportunities post-graduation?
A: Monmouth County is a growing and diverse area, offering increasing opportunities for Family physicians. As a community hospital, CentraState enables its residents to take advantage of this growing need by assisting in their post-graduate career placement.

Q: Is there subsidized housing for residents?
A: No, but we are in contact with experienced local realtors to assist you in finding housing near the hospital.

Q: What is the call schedule like?
A: During the1st and 2nd year, call is between Q2 and Q4. During the 3rd year of the program, residents can take home calls.
