Quit Today: No Ifs, Ands or BUTTS
The Star and Barry Tobias Health Awareness Center offers a Smoking Cessation program designed by the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) and based on the model used successfully in the United Kingdom for years.
Our Smoking Cessation program requires a seven-session commitment. During the first session, you meet one on one with a certified tobacco dependence specialist for an assessment of your tobacco usage, previous attempts to quit, and medical history. Together, you and the specialist design a treatment program based on your needs.
After that, you will join other program participants in one-hour group sessions once a week for six weeks. During these sessions, you will progress from being a smoker to being an ex-smoker!
Smoking Cessation Program Methods
We know it's not easy to quit, but our Smoking Cessation program provides proven methods to help you achieve your smoke-free goal, including:
Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) helps to ease the effects of physical addiction to nicotine, so you can concentrate on the behavior aspects of smoking. Nicotine, while addictive, is not the harmful aspect of smoking. It's the 4,000 chemicals, particulates and other ingredients in cigarette smoke that cause so many health problems.
Mutual support and reinforcement.
The group setting offers mutual support, positive reinforcement and encouragement. Throughout, our trained tobacco dependence counselors are your special resource.
The HAC is located at CentraState’s Star and Barry Tobias Ambulatory Campus, 901 West Main Street, Freehold, adjacent to Centrastate Medical Center.
