A Magnet Hospital
In December 2005, CentraState Medical Center became only the 187th hospital out of more than 5,700 throughout the U.S. to be awarded the prestigious Magnet designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) of the American Nurses Association. Magnet designation is widely considered the "gold standard" for measuring quality patient care and nursing excellence and provides the public with the ultimate benchmark for measuring the level of care they can expect to receive and the professionalism and expertise of the nursing staff who deliver that care.

According to the ANCC, nurses at Magnet hospitals "spend more time at patients' bedsides providing compassionate, expert care than at most other hospitals...Magnet nurses have the support, autonomy and the tools they need to do their work well."

To earn Magnet designation, we underwent a rigorous evaluation focused on a wide range of quality indicators and standards of nursing practice. The Magnet Recognition Program emphasizes various aspects of nursing care— from how nurses assess patients to how nurses themselves are evaluated. Among other things, it looks at the role that clinical research plays in the standards for nursing care, what educational opportunities are provided for nursing staff, how nurses collaborate with other care providers, what resources are provided to the nursing staff to take care of patients and how performance improvement is measured.

We have always known that we have outstanding nurses providing outstanding care. Magnet recognition serves to make the public more aware, and wearer extremely proud of this independent confirmation of the high caliber of nursing expertise at CentraState.
A Friendly, Supportive Environment
The friendly, supportive nursing environment at CentraState Medical Center goes hand in hand with a great working relationship with all hospital departments. You will feel supported by staff and administration right from orientation. We provide an extensive educational period where we present our policies, procedures, and practices. You will attend a formal program with our professional development staff and then work with your preceptor, nurse managers, and educator on your nursing unit.

We have an RN Internship for new graduates and nurses looking to work in an area in which they have limited experience, and a Student Nurse Extern Program that prior participants rate as excellent. And, the education doesn’t stop there: Approximately 450 approved CEUs are offered at CentraState annually. We are an ACLS/BLS/PALS training site and we pay for ongoing formal education and continuing education programs. We also have a clinical ladder called the Nursing Excellence Program (NEP).

CentraState offers flexible scheduling to meet your needs and a highly competitive salary and benefits program. We also have free parking.

We encourage you to participation our Nursing governance committees–the Professional Practice, Nursing Standards, and Quality Improvement committees– and invite you to become a member of any of these committees: Nursing Pharmacy, Physician Collaboration, Nursing Research, Diabetes Network, Patient Education, or your unit-based council. Nurses are empowered and have a voice in Nursing decisions at CentraState Medical Center.

We are growing, renovating, and expanding our obstetrical, emergency, intensive care, cardiology and surgical services. Please come and see what CentraState has to offer you.
