Hypertension Symptoms

Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a chronic medical condition which affects many American adults. Many times the cause for hypertension is unknown. If not treated properly, hypertension can become fatal. A common mistake made by many individuals with hypertension is that they believe they will be alerted to high blood pressure by experiencing hypertension symptoms. In fact, a person can have high blood pressure without experiencing any hypertension symptoms at all. People with hypertension rarely experience any hypertension symptoms within the early stages of high blood pressure. Hypertension symptoms may range from dull headaches and dizzy spells to more nosebleeds than usual. It is typically not until a person’s blood pressure has reached a severe level that hypertension symptoms can appear.

Because you can have high blood pressure without hypertension symptoms, it is important that you know your blood pressure numbers. Routine yearly visits to your primary care doctor (a family doctor or internal medicine doctor) are necessary so that you can get regular blood pressure screenings to ensure you have not developed or are not developing high blood pressure, or hypertension. CentraState’s primary care physicians are highly trained to treat many conditions including high blood pressure, and illnesses which may occur from having high blood pressure.

There are several risk factors for developing high blood pressure. High blood pressure risks and hypertension symptoms should be discussed with your CentraState family doctor or internal medicine doctor if you feel you may be prone to developing high blood pressure or experiencing hypertension symptoms.
