Stephen Naples pilots cargo ships from New York City ports to the Atlantic Ocean. One requirement of the job is scaling a wood-and-rope ladder up to 40 feet high to board and disembark from the vessels.
But that had became a grueling challenge as Stephen put on significant weight over the years—eventually reaching 375 pounds.
After unsuccessful attempts at significant and sustained weight loss through an assortment of diets, Stephen turned to
weight-loss (bariatric) surgery at CentraState Medical Center.
Within six months of the surgery, Stephen had lost 100 pounds. These days, climbing the 40-foot ladder no longer poses problems.
