FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP—Patients treated for heart failure at CentraState Medical Center have one of the highest survival rates in the U.S, according to a government report released last week. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) calls it a low mortality (death) rate, and CMS recognized CentraState and 40 other hospitals in the country for the highest-quality care to heart failure patients. This rate at CentraState is 8.3%, compared to a national average of 11.1%.
The federal health agency also released mortality rates last week for heart attack and pneumonia treatment. CentraState was at the national average for both, at 16.2% and 10.3%, respectively.
CMS measured the mortality rates of Medicare patients in the three categories within 30 days of care from July 2006 through June 2007.
CentraState Healthcare System is a non-profit community health organization consisting of an acute-care hospital, an ambulatory care campus, three senior living communities, a Family Medicine Residency Program, and a charitable foundation.
