Prevention and Treatment

Your cardiac team will guide you in making healthy lifestyle changes to help prevent or slow the progression of heart disease. Depending on your unique needs, recommendations may include a healthy eating plan, smoking cessation advice, a weight management program, stress management techniques, a personalized exercise plan or diabetes management.

Dietary Modifications and Weight Management

The Star and Barry Tobias Health Awareness Center has helped thousands of people to adopt healthy lifestyles through active participation in a variety of wellness programs. Weight management and nutrition services include:
  • Nutrition counseling—a registered dietitian will design a personalized approach to healthy eating and weight management.
  • Healthy cooking demonstrations—interactive sessions with different themes are held in a teaching kitchen.
  • Weight-loss programs—group sessions taught by registered dietitians are custom-designed for those with cardiac risk factors.
  • Metabolic weight analysis—includes computerized metabolic rate analysis, plus interpretation of result to help you with your weight management goals.
