CentraState Healthcare System is participating in the annual, week-long, education and awareness campaign for health care safety, led by the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) and Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). Each year, health care organizations and communities worldwide take part in the event by prominently displaying the campaign logo and promotional materials within their organizations, creating awareness in the community, and deploying NPSF educational resources to health care staff and patients.

This year’s theme, “Patient Engagement and Safety Culture” will focus on hand hygiene, specimen collection and labeling, handoff communication, and patient identification.

Beginning March 11, CentraState will display a patient engagement exhibit in the hospital lobby and distribute patient safety educational brochures to staff, patients and the community.

IHI is hosting a complimentary webcast on Monday, March 12 from 1-2 p.m.  “Engaging Patients and Providers: Speaking Up for Patient Safety” will be moderated by nationally recognized expert, Dr. Gandhi. Registration is required by visiting https://app.ihi.org/events/SelectAttendee.aspx?New=1&EventId=3129.

On Friday, March 16, from 12-1 p.m., IHI (@theIHI) will host the Twitter Chat: “Building a Safety Culture.” Governmental, advocacy, and professional organizations and individuals will share questions, challenges, and strategies to advance a safety culture in health care. All are invited to participate by using the event hashtag #PSAW18.
