CentraState Medical Center has recently received CEO Cancer Gold Standard reaccreditation by the CEO Roundtable on Cancer, a nonprofit organization of cancer-fighting CEOs in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute, many of its designated cancer centers, and leading health non-profit organizations and professionals. CentraState was recognized for its extraordinary commitment to the health and wellbeing of its employees and their families.

Today, more than four and a half million employees and family members are benefiting from the vision and leadership of employers who have chosen to become Gold Standardaccredited. The CEO Cancer Gold Standard calls for companies to evaluate their health benefits and corporate culture and take extensive, concrete actions in five key areas of health and wellness to fight cancer in the workplace. To earn Gold Standard accreditation, a company must establish programs to reduce cancer risk by discouraging tobacco use; encouraging physical activity; promoting healthy nutrition; detecting cancer at its earliest stages when outcomes may be more favorable; and providing access to quality care, including participation in cancer clinical trials.

CentraState earned Gold Standard recognition through the many efforts that have yielded a positive impact on the entire community in which CentraState serves, including the establishment of a tobacco-free policy, the opening of the Star and Barry Tobias Ambulatory Campus that provides patients, their families, and employees access to fitness, nutrition, health and wellness programs and services, and offering cancer health screenings throughout the year. CentraState also developed and offered an innovative, plant-powered nutrition program solely to its employees and their spouses that provides the participants with the education and tools necessary to successfully make lifestyle changes to improve their overall health.

CentraState also signed an affiliation agreement with Hackensack’s Theurer Cancer Center to make available to Statesir Cancer Center patients a broader range of more specialized cancer care treatment options.

“CentraState is honored to once again receive CEO Cancer Gold Standard™ designation and to be lauded for our efforts in improving the overall health of our employees, as well as reducing the risk of cancer among our employees, volunteers and patients,” says John Gribbin, president and CEO, CentraState Healthcare System. “We are truly committed to the fight against cancer. We are determined to provide everyone with access to top-notch prevention, diagnostic, treatment and cancer survivorship programming, including coordinated, comprehensive and personalized cancer care.”
