CentraState Medical Center is addressing the current health crisis with the formation of a COVID-19 response team. The team takes a multidisciplinary approach and is comprised of:

  • Primary Care Physicians
  • Infectious Disease Physicians
  • Pulmonary and Critical Care Physicians
  • Residents
  • Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs)
  • Infection Control, Pharmacy, Care Coordination and Social Workers
  • Medical Staff Leadership

Every morning the team reviews cases and then admits, transfers or discharges COVID-19 patients based on their collective findings.

“This collaboration is unique because it brings together physicians from multiple practices with a goal of providing excellent care and safety for our patients and staff,” says James Matera, D.O., Chief Medical Officer of CentraState Healthcare System.

Using the latest and best evidence possible, the team looks at risk factors, laboratory markers, and the clinical picture to make decisions based on those findings.

The localizing of patients onto a team also helps preserve valuable personal protective equipment (PPE), limits exposure to healthcare workers, and evaluates resource management.
