CentraState enhances its comprehensive breast care program

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIPThe Cancer Center at CentraState Medical Center has enhanced its comprehensive breast care program aimed at providing high-quality care with the convenience of diagnostic and treatment options. CentraState’s multidisciplinary team of breast care specialists includes medical and radiation oncologists trained at the country’s top academic medical centers, skilled breast surgeons, highly trained radiologists, and nurse navigators. CentraState’s recent affiliation with Hackensack University Medical Center Health Network for oncological services allows the breast cancer team access to specially trained breast cancer pathologists. The Cancer Center also includes Magnet-designated nurses credentialed in chemotherapy and certified in cancer care. CentraState has additional professionals focused on the patients’ physical, emotional and spiritual needs to help patients through their breast cancer journey.

According to the American College of Surgeons’ (ACoS) National Cancer Data Base (NCDB), a nationwide oncology outcomes database for Commission-accredited cancer programs throughout the country, CentraState’s 5-year breast cancer survival rates far exceed the published survival rates for the national average.

The breast care program’s cancer team is led by Mary Martucci, DO, FACOS, FSSO, a board-certified surgeon and fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist and medical director of the Star and Barry Tobias Women’s Health Center. The full, multidisciplined team specializes in the surgical treatment of breast cancer and other diseases of the breast, and provides a comprehensive approach to breast health, working closely with the patient’s gynecologist and primary care physician to develop the best treatment plan for breast issues.

The program offers a personalized approach to treatments for breast cancer, including surgery, lumpectomy, mastectomy, breast conservation surgery, breast reconstruction, radiation therapyproton therapy and chemotherapy. To help patients cope with the emotional and physical effects of breast cancer, the program also offers an array of supportive services such as wellness programs and support groups. CentraState also offers lymphedema prevention and treatment as well as a large selection of survivorship services.
