Our board-certified pediatricians and obstetricians consider your child’s well-being the top priority and by providing side by side care, are able to cover all conditions for your newborn’s well-being.

Should your baby require special attention, our board-certified neonatologists offer expert care 24/7 and will work with your obstetrician and pediatrician to ensure regular progress updates every step of the way.

If your child requires a hospital stay, our Pediatric Center offers exceptional care and family-centered services—along with a soothing, home-like atmosphere to ensure the speedy recovery of your child and the comfort of the whole family.

HEALTHY SPINES FOR KIDS

When an adolescent is diagnosed with scoliosis, the condition may worsen as he or she grows, so early screening—and early treatment—can be crucial before the curves of the spine worsen. Schroth Barcelona Institute certified therapists who specialize in adolescent scoliosis offer free screenings at CentraState for ages 10 to 17 years old. Each person who participates will receive a copy of the screening results that offer approximate measurements.

To prepare for the scoliosis screenings:

  • A parent must be present and will need to sign a consent form for participation.
  • Girls will need to wear either a sports bra, bathing suit top, or fitted tank top. Screenings will be provided by physical therapists in a private comfortable area.

How is Scoliosis Diagnosed?

Screenings can be performed using a scoliometer, a device that measures the degrees of rotation at the trunk. Once it’s determined that an adolescent is at risk of having scoliosis, it’s recommended that an orthopedic specialist in scoliosis provides an evaluation and diagnosis, measures spinal curves, determines the risk for progression, and offers treatment options.

As one of these options, the OceanFirst Rehabilitation Center at CentraState Medical Center now offers an innovative physical therapy treatment called the Schroth 3D treatment for scoliosis.

Schedule a free scoliosis screening by calling 732-294-2700.

When an adolescent is diagnosed with scoliosis, the condition may worsen as he or she grows. The good news is treatment options for scoliosis are no longer limited to surgery or braces.

Non-surgical Schroth 3D Treatment

This treatment is a conservative option that uses customized exercises and breathing techniques to work toward improving the scoliosis posture. Therapy includes treating the patient at all planes of the body, making it a 3D approach. Exercises are designed to promote symmetry and improve alignment. Mirrors and other tools are also used to help patients become more aware of their body to assist with postural correction.

The physical therapist works closely with the patient, parent, and care team on this therapy, which involves active patient participation and a commitment to performing a home-based program, as well as the patient’s ongoing support with postural corrections throughout the day.

Benefits include:

  • Improved posture
  • Improved overall body awareness
  • Improved strength of postural muscles to promote symmetry
  • Improved alignment
  • Reduced pain
  • Increased lung capacity

For more information about the Schroth 3D treatment for scoliosis at the OceanFirst Rehabilitation Center at CentraState, call 866-CENTRA7. To schedule an appointment, call 732-294-2700 or request an appointment online.
