Get Your (Healthy) Snack On

If you’re working from home, you’re likely spending long hours hunched over a computer monitor or glued to a telephone. If so, you want snacks to power you up throughout the day.

Here are some snack ideas from the American Heart Association that will satisfy your cravings without filling out your waistline:

Crunchy Snacks

  • Carrot and celery sticks
  • Broccoli and cauliflower florets
  • Bell pepper slices
  • Cucumber or zucchini circles
  • Apples and pears
  • Roasted chickpeas
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Rice cakes and whole-grain crackers
  • Popcorn

Satisfying Snacks

  • Whole-grain crackers with canned tuna or salmon
  • Whole-grain toast with peanut or almond butter
  • Cherry tomatoes with hummus
  • Fruit and vegetable smoothie
  • Low-fat or fat-free cheese
  • Plain low-fat or fat-free yogurt

Sweet Snacks

  • Fresh fruit salad
  • Canned fruit (in natural juice or light syrup)
  • Baked apple
  • Raisins, dates, figs and other unsweetened dried fruits
  • Frozen banana
  • Frozen grapes
  • Thin slice of angel food cake or homemade banana-nut bread
